Riddle School Remake

Posted by Graeme - March 5th, 2015

I am too excited about this to keep it to myself for any longer!

For Pico Day 2015, I will be remaking @JonBro 's classic: Riddle School!

The original was released back in May 2006, making the game nearly 9 years old. The series has grown to include 6 installments, with millions of views, and a huge fan base.

I always thought a remake would be a fun way to honor a Newgrounds classic, and I finally realized that this game would be perfect for it. I have reached out to JonBro, and he has been extremely supportive of the idea!

It is my goal to stay as true to the series as possible. I don't want to screw up any continuity, or accidentally take anything out of the game that the fans might have loved. I also want the game to feel fresh to those of you who can beat the original in 20 seconds. So in addition to updating the art to more closely match later installments in series, I will be adding a few new puzzles.

Here is the first peak at the remake. tentatively titled "Return to Riddle School". (What do you guys think of the title?)

Desks are wrong colour and sockets are missing. The entire game is ruined!

Jokes on you! The socket simply moved!!

Your Riddle School looks more inviting than mine. I'd go there.

I hope you don't mind that I copied the new design of Mr. Kahm from the scrapped Riddle Retold ;)

Seriously tho, I'd say don't be afraid to go the extra mile in remaking it. Don't stick TOO close to the source material because it might stifle original ideas and designs. Feel free to fill up the room with tons more new and fun scenery or interact-able objects / characters. Carbon copies are pointless, do have lots of creative fun with the concept and please please please run with it for fun sake :)

Good luck, mate.

Good point, and I should clarify that this isn't complete!

I shared this picture specifically because it creates a nice comparison with the original. Right now it has exactly what the original did. No more, no less. I will be fleshing out each map with plenty of new things to interact with.

Thanks for the well wishes :)

Just another reason to look forward to April 25th.

The only reason really.

Jonbro is still one of my favorite people on this website

Soon I will absorb him entirely, and then there will be only me!

Ah hell yeah, at least all the waiting for Riddle Transfer 2 led to something

I guess

I very briefly considered asking about continuing the series, but I just don't have the time. I also think it wouldn't be my place.
Hopefully this still scratches that itch at least a little bit.

YES.
THIS PLEASES ME.
THIS PLEASES ME A LOT.

No but really,i'm looking forward to IMO one of the greatest games ever created on this site,do it. DO IT NOW.

No pressure, right?
;)

That's a very nice gesture, JonBro really did create a very enjoyable series which deserves the homage, so very much looking forward to playing it! Will you be aiming for a straight remake, or will there be some additional twists?

Everything from the original will remain in the game. But I do plan to add extra puzzles, and steps to finishing the game. I'll also be adding extra decorations and such for you to click around on.

The moral of the series was to stay in school

I'll be sure to keep that in mind.
Although, JonBro has said that the game could benefit from having more of an ending. That has been a struggle to think up!

Phil head is a bit too big. I am forward to see this game in remake with new puzzles. Now all we're missing is Riddle Transfer 2.

Maybe someone else will be brave enough to step up to continue the series!

YES ALL OF MY YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVED THE RIDDLE SCHOOL SERIES!!!!!! a-ahem. . . anyways can you please make remakes for every RS game (exept for RS4. . . thats kind of a hing to help bridge RS3 to RS5).

If I had the time I would have loved to attempt "Riddle Retold" like JonBro once did, where the first 3 games were remade.
Then I would feel the need to remake Riddle School 5 as well, because of the parts where he revists the old games. The art and animation on RS5 is probably better than I'm capable of!

So (far now at least) I will only be remaking the first game, and I'd say don't get your hopes up about the others. Sorry.

Oh look an idea I once had and then cancellI'M EXCITED!
How about "Riddle Re-Schooled"? Or the slightly shorter "Riddle Re-School"?

hehe look at that chubby phil

I'll keep the name in mind! You're the first person to actually address my question of whether or not that name is good. So thanks for that :)

Win-win, eh? You get to see a remake made, with none of the work!

please make it so you're able to go into the girl's washroom

I've considered this, but I not sure if I will add it.

Phil is only meant to be in elementary school, which I think is the "girls have cooties" phase for most kids. If I stick with that, than he really wouldn't want to go in there.
